Want to Hold an Event With Us?
The events programme at the Gutter is always busy and full of an interesting mix of literary happenings. We’re always interested in bringing new events into our bookshops so if you think you have something that might work, do drop us a line! And all of our book sales are logged with Nielsen Bookscan so your event sales will also show up in the weekly Irish Consumer Market book charts!
Cow’s Lane Events:
Our floor space happily holds between 30 and 150 people. We supply some seating but this is limited this to a maximum of 30 chairs, the remaining audience will be standing. For events outside of normal shop hours we ask the organiser to confirm a minimum expected attendance of 30 people in order to cover our costs.
We provide the space and staff free of charge in exchange for selling books at the event. For book launches, we usually order stock via our standard wholesaler but we are happy for the organiser/publisher to supply books direct on the condition that all unsold event stock is removed after the event. Any additional ongoing stock required will be ordered from a wholesaler.
All events are open to our regular customers and we will advertise the event through our Mailing List, website, Facebook and Twitter.
We are happy to serve wine and refreshments but we do ask either the organiser or book publisher to cover the cost of this. We can source good quality wine at €9 a bottle or we are happy to serve other wine if they wish to source it themselves. We also supply water/sparkling water for non-drinkers. We don’t source or serve food/canapes but we’re happy to provide table space if required.
Most of our events run Mon-Weds (we have our regular bookclub events on a Thursday night and Fridays/Weekends can be difficult to get people to unless you are sure of an audience). Events usually run 6.30pm to 8pm but we are happy to discuss alternative days/times if these don’t suit. If a number of guests are ‘out for the night’ it can often be useful to organize a bar or other venue to move onto after the event finishes.
Dalkey Shop Events:
Our Dalkey shop is quite small which makes large events difficult – but we’re always willing to try! If you’re interested in organising something for our Dalkey shop we’re always eager to hear new ideas so do drop us a line!
