Welcome to The Gutter Bookshop! We are an independent bookshop based in Dublin, Ireland. Our original store opened on Cow's Lane in Temple Bar in 2009, and we opened our second shop in Dalkey, a seaside village in South Dublin in 2013. We aim to provide something a bit different from the range you find in large chain bookshops, as well as offering the opportunity to discover something new and exciting that you'll struggle to uncover on a internet bookshop search. We also hold lots of book-related events, readings and bookclubs so do pop in and say hello if you're close to either of our lovely bookshops!

We don't currently sell online but if you would like us to get something for you please contact us at or on (+353) 1 6799206. We can get most popular titles within 24 hours and there's no postage costs if you choose to pick them up from the shop! We will also do our best to track down new or good secondhand copies of books that are out-of-print or hard to find, and we are happy to post books worldwide if you prefer.

BAMBBooks Are My Bag
Books Are My Bag is an international campaign that celebrates books and local bookshops and is a collaboration between publishers, bookshops and authors. Over 100 UK and Irish celebrities have been photographed with a BOOKS ARE MY BAG tote bag to support the celebrations and you can pick up one of these stylish totes in the Gutter Bookshop!

Our Pick of the Best Books

We hold a wide range of gift stationery including Moleskine Notebooks and Paperblanks but we're particularly fond of our quirky ranges from Chronicle (pictured here) and Peter Pauper Press which include journals and notecards. We also carry greetings cards from Woodmansterne, Nouvelles Images and ArtPress, and beautiful giftwrap from Penny Kennedy.

Our popular range of children's puppets from The Puppet Company always go down well. From cuddly animals to squawking birds, purple monsters to the fabulous Sockettes (pictured here). We carry a wide range in store but if there's something particular that you'd like then do let us know and we'll order it in for you!

JohnConnollyPhotoPersonalised Signed Books by John Connolly
Bestselling Irish author John Connolly has allowed us to offer you exclusive personalised signed copies of his books. Simply contact us with details of what you would like and we will arrange it for you. See the John Connolly Website for more info.

In the meantime, why not have a look around the site? I'm keeping a blog of the progress we're making. There's also some photos so you can see things as they do (or don't) happen.

We'll also be passing personal judgment in the book reviews section. Some books we like, some books we don't. And as an independent, we're quite happy to tell you which are really good books, and which aren't... (we'll keep the good ones in stock!)

Please let me know what you're thinking and what you'd like to see in your ideal, small but perfectly formed, bookshop in contacts. Or keep in contact with us via social media with Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

As for selling books online... we're not there yet! It'll come as soon as possible. In the meantime, if there's something you'd like us to get for you, just drop us a line and we'll do our best.
